Founded in 2014 by two Roswell (Georgia) Rotarians, Be THE Voice started as a simple 12-week video series that taught students non-confrontational methods to diffuse bullying.
Built on research demonstrating the effectiveness of bystander intervention, we evaluated the program's impact by conducting pre- and post-campaign surveys at a Roswell high school with 2,200 students. The results were remarkable, showing a 56% decrease in bullying. This confirmed our belief that, with a little guidance and support, students can be powerful agents of change in challenging social situations.
As the demand for kindness, compassion, and inclusion has grown, so has the depth of BTV’s messaging. In addition to learning essential communication skills, Be THE Voice students experience the joy of serving others – a value deeply cherished by Founders Debbie Cwalina and Michael Schoppenhorst, who live by the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self."
