Be THE Voice at The Main Street Academy: A New Student Driven, Anti-Bullying Initiative

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. The Main Street Academy is pleased to partner with Be The Voice, to address and combat bullying. Be The Voice is a student-driven anti-bullying initiative that results in real buy-in with their peers. TMSA kicked off Be The Voice on Thursday, October 13, 2022. TMSA students in grades 4 – 8 are participating in Be The Voice. Teachers nominated two Be The Voice ambassadors per homeroom. Ambassadors were nominated based on their leadership qualities and traits of empathy.  On kick-off day, the ambassadors greeted students during the morning carline and introduced Be The Voice to their peers during homeroom. Be The Voice lessons will be conducted every Thursday during the 2022 – 2023 school year.

From the BTV Sponsor: "We had our BTV kick-off two weeks ago and had our second week of BTV lessons last week!  It went very well!! All our ambassadors arrived early to cheer and dance in the morning carline with foam fingers and their shirts.  We gave out stickers, pencils, and wrist bands to the younger students since they didn’t get to participate in the leadership part.  I had trained our 4th – 8th ambassadors for two weeks during specials on Wednesdays and they are leading the discussions during homeroom first things on Thursdays   They were very excited the first week to hand out freebies they counted out to their homerooms after playing the intro video and talking about what Be the Voice is!  WE also had them establish classroom norms for the discussion... The kids have been LOVING it so far."
