CCRPI AND BE THE VOICE

Schools in Georgia can annually apply for Exceeding THE Bar (ETB) bonus points to add to their CCRPI score. One of the ETB categories is the school climate. Schools are encouraged to implement research-based programs or practices to improve their school climate. In addition, schools receive school climate star rating based on certain data points.

During the 2016-2017 school year Centennial High School chose to implement the Be THE Voice anti-bullying program and we submitted this practice as part of our ETB post-data application. As you know,?this program is designed to help students become UPstanders in a bullying situation. It is a ?peer-to-peer? program that was administered by our student leaders from various clubs, societies, and sports teams. It was also monitored by teachers on weekly basis through student-led and teacher-facilitated discussions focused on the program weekly video clip. Student leaders thought through their unique Centennial message focused around each ?Be THE Voice? video. The impact of the program was measured by student pre- and post-survey as well as discipline data (bullying and harassment category). In addition to the quantitative side, we have student stories that touch your heart. Several students were recognized by their peers for making a difference in a bullying situation. These students were given the VIV (Very Important Voice) award. We have certainly seen positive improvements in our discipline data as well as survey results. We are very encouraged by student response and we will continue our partnership with Be THE Voice program in the school year of 2017-2018.
