MAYOR WOOD DECLARES OCTOBER STOP BULLYING MONTH

Whereas,

Over 13 million kids will be bullied this year, making it the most common form of violence experienced by young people in this nation; and

Whereas,

In the past 20 years, we have seen an escalation of bullying prevention programs using numerous techniques with limited long term success. Studies now show that effective anti-bullying programs should focus on the role of the bystander and more importantly, the voice. Research has shown that bullying stops in less than 10 seconds when someone intervenes on behalf of the target; and

Whereas,

Be THE Voice That Stops Bullying is supported by Roswell Rotary and its Interact Clubs, and is a peer-to-peer style twelve week video campaign designed to help student bystanders find their ?voice? when witnessing a situation that involves bullying; and

Whereas,

Be THE Voice That Stops Bullying is launching its second year in October 2016 to coincide with National Bullying Prevention Month.

Now Therefore,

I, Jere Wood, Mayor of the City of Roswell, do hereby proclaim October as Be THE Voice That Stops Bullying Month and encourage all of our citizens to recognize the Rotary Club of Roswell for their dedication to improve the lives of children in our community today and for future generations.
